CHRDSL also engages business leaders, stakeholders, policymakers and politicians by drawing their attention to the implementation of economic, social development and that of human rights policies.

Statement from our Founder & CEO
I am extremely delighted to communicate that Campaign for Human Rights and Development Sierra Leone (CHRDSL) is an organization with a tremendous amount of potential for long term growth and development. To further tap that potential we will focus our attention on developing consistent advocacy work, education and independent research every year.
Human rights are becoming an increasingly globalised concept. In today’s society, we see that many advocacy organisations like ours are implementing universal measures and standards of human rights so as to ensure that no person is disadvantaged on the basis of their race, creed or religious beliefs, among other things. However, international experience has shown us that the existence of these international mechanisms does not necessarily amount to a safeguard against human rights breaches.. More often than not, these organisations can only intervene in certain prescribed circumstances. |
Right to Development is the right to a process of development where all human rights – economic, social and cultural rights and civil and political rights – are realized. An improvement in realization of the Right to Development means that at least some rights should improve while no rights are violated. Implementing the Right to Development would require implementation of a development policy for the economy as a whole. It would harmonize policies for realizing individual rights with a programme for economic growth, respecting standards of human rights.
Our five years strategic plan calls for CHRDSL to aggressively close this gap. With that said, we will focus our attention on massive advocacy and information activities to increase public awareness on right to development that will give CHRDSL a true national and international presence. Lastly, we will achieve this objective by engaging on cooperate partnership with other like-minded organization's like ours. Thank You. |
